President's Message
The President's Message, Spring 2010
I married into this Camp Meeting Family that I have grown to love and I look forward to seeing them every June. It is one of the unchanging things in life that I can rely on. I love the slow relaxed pace, the beauty of the grounds and the extended family atmosphere. I look forward each year to reconnecting with family and friends and watching the children grow up over the years. In essence, it is the combination of faith, fun, and fellowship that brings me back each year.
There have been many changes over the years as well. Some of those changes have come about because the standing board had great leaders to learn from. Charles Mack is my father in law. I watched him run the camp with other great men like Charles Washington, Jim Pinkard, John Hudson, Jimmy Maxwell, JB Baker, Webster Gilchrist, Bennie Patterson, and Howard Seagraves. Recent years we have had Liz Mack, Marian Patterson, and Doris Wiegand as our first women on the board.
I have been honored to be a part of some of the changes over the years. Some of the changes have been: Enclosing the Tabernacle, working under a budget, air conditioned all Association Buildgsin, year round care of the grounds, provided nursery, added 9 new cottages, built the little wharf, installed RV pads, renovated dorms, inplemented a rotating Board of Directors, updated the Articles and By-Laws, increased camp use during the year, improved community relations due to the Coalition Choir, hired a caretaker.
In everything we do the Board keeps two things in mind--Holding onto Camp Meeting values and reaching for those changes necessary to keep our camp viable to a new generation.
As I have done before, I ask you to pray, come, give, support, and work for your Lake Arthur Camp.
I love Lake Arthur Camp and I love my Camp Meeting family!!
See you in June,
Dean Sawyer, Board President
